The European Patent Office (EPO) announced on June the 27th 2013 that a consortium of four companies belonging to the Group TBI, one of the largest construction company in the Netherlands, in co-operation with two leading architectural firms, Ateliers Jean Nouvel (Paris) and Dam & Partners Architecten (Amsterdam), has won the international competition to design and construct its new "Main Building" in Rijswijk (The Hague). The administrative council of the European Patent Office took the decision during its regular meeting in Munich, endorsing the recommendation made by an international jury.
With its gross floor area over 80 000 square feet to house approximately 1750 staff members, it will be one of the largest construction projects of its kind in the Netherlands today. Construction work is due to begin in 2014.
