Paris: Masterplan of Austerlitz Station Area

France Go Full Screen

The Austerlitz railway station Development
The most striking feature on this site is the grand scale of coexisting compositions and outlines, similar to the traditional ones that can be found along the Seine (Trocadero, Champs de Mars, Invalides, Concorde, Grand Palais, Orsay Museum, Louvre ...):
-The perspective of the Jardin des Plantes, 400 m deep;
-The facade of the Salpêtrière hospital, 215 m long;
-The Grande Halle d'Austerlitz, 300 m long;
The Embarcadère d’Orleans, with a facade of 150 meters on the Seine.
This large-scale environment called for a project whose first reading could be done on a grand scale. But this first composition also has to flourish with areas designed for current or future complex and diverse uses, in a simple setting:  Long Distance travels and daily migrations, encounters, meetings and conventions, shopping, dining and cafes, local activities.
These areas, of specific dimensions, will adequately delineate major spaces’ larger scales, whilst offering a series of discoveries and atmospheres that will make any use of these premises a unique spatial experience.
